Joanne C Hillhouse has five published books of fiction – the Boy from Willow Bend – which is taught at schools in Anguilla and Antigua, Dancing Nude in the Moonlight – an anniversary edition of which has been published as Dancing Nude in the Moonlight 10th Anniversary Edition and Other Writings, Fish Outta Water – a children’s picture book, Musical Youth – a finalist for the inaugural Burt Award for teen and young adult Caribbean literature, and Oh Gad! – described on NPR as “a compelling slice of Caribbean life”.  She’s also published in anthologies like Pepperpot: Best New Stories from the Caribbean and For Women: In Tribute to Nina Simone; journals like PEN America and the Caribbean Writer; and magazines like Essence and Writer’s Digest. She has participated in writing workshops at University of Miami, Middlebury College, and Brown University; she recently participated in CARIBLit’s fiction editing workshop. Joanne freelances as a writer and editor, writing coach and workshop facilitator when she’s not creating her own prose and poetry. She also runs a writing programme, Wadadli Pen (wadadlipen.wordpress.com), to nurture and celebrate the literary arts in her homeland of Antigua and Barbuda.
